Top 3 Dives in the World – Don’t Miss Them

divers lagoon talkingScuba diving destinations are a great attractions and a great escape to many divers from all around the world.  Many dive area offer various beauties and specialties to the divers who are willing to pay handful amount of money just to get down there, bubble with the aquatic life, and stamp the log book.  These days as well, many campaigns are on in order to conserve the marine life and the corals.  I myself, as a PADI divemaster, makes sure divers are well aware of marine life projection before hopping off the boat.  Regardless, there are still many great and awesome dive destinations around the globe and here are three of themBarracuda Point Dive Site

Barracuda point is the most popular diving experiences in Sipadan.  What makes this dive particularly special is the breathtaking amount of underwater life you see.  The coral wall homes hundreds of turtles and as you descend deeper, you are met by shoals of batfish, jacks and hundreds of barracuda, which swarm together creating huge tornado like effects.  The turtles are particularly amazing and they are relatively uninhibited by divers taking photographs of them.

This dive has a slightly different topography than the other deep walls of Sipadan. The drop off point for the boats is a sheer wall.   This however curves in over a ledge at around the 22m mark creating a sort of wide step like an underwater runway. If you follow this ledge around at the 20m mark, it is almost certain you will see schools of white tip sharks. You finish this dive in the shallow coral garden where thousands of fish can be seen.

Richelieu Rock

Richelieu Rock is voted as one of the best dive sites in the world and without a doubt the best diving site in Thailand! The place is particularly famous for its Whale Shark sightings.  The chances to spot them are greatest from February to May. However, even if you don’t see any Whale Sharks, the site is still fantastic and you can spot many pelagic fishes like Barracudas, Giant trevallies and Dogtooth Tunas. There is also lots of Manta Ray which if you are lucky you will see too!  What makes this site special too are the other kinds of marine life such as Porcelain crabs, Tiger Tail Sea Horses, Pipefishes, Harlequin Shrimp and a great variety of Nudibranch!

The dive site is very large and it’s recommended that you have at least two dives to explore the area. Diving in Richelieu Rock can sometimes be challenging because it is in open water and the current can be strong. The visibility can be reduced by the high density of plankton in the water, but that’s what attracts the Whale Sharks and the Manta Rays!

The USS Liberty Wreck

The USS Liberty Wreck is the most famous dive site in Bali.  Furthermore it is also one of the best sunken ship wrecks in the world! The liberty ship was hit by a Japanese torpedo then was washed up near Tulamben. In 1963, the eruption of the volcano Mount Agung caused the vessel to slip off the beach back into the water.  It now lies on a sand slope in 9 to 30 m of water which is perfect for all levels of divers!  The wreck is about 130 m long with the shallowest part at about 5 m deep and the deepest on the other side of the wreck at about 30 m deep. This site is popular both during the day and the night so it is crowded, but there is a reason for that, as it is spectacular!
